Power Play Q&A
WARNING: SPOILERS
Francine Pascal is well known for capturing controversy and writing about it. All Night Long is no different. In this novel, Scott Daniels accosts Jessica Wakefield. If you read my review of the book, you’re aware that Jessica was attracted to this “bad boy” college student. Scott was known for having a reputation with the ladies, so this was a disaster waiting to happen. Sixteen-year-old Jessica knew that he was trouble, yet she stuck around and wound up alone with him, and something tragic nearly happened.
One thing that bothers me about the entire story is that there was nothing done about Scott. Clearly, he was an adult dating a teenager. He made threats, and Jessica never reported it. I wish the author had dove a little deeper in this story and presented some repercussions for Scott.
1. What would your 12 year old self have rated this book?
Three stars.
2. Would you want your 13 year old to read this?
For conversation purposes. I would use All Night Long as a discussion piece to warn my child about being in dangerous situations and avoiding being a victim.
3. How do you think adolescents today would feel about this book?
I think they would find it a bit cheesy. lol
4. What’s different about life in this story compared to today’s life? (i.e. social, technological advances)
- One of Scott Daniels’ friends was compared to Bo Derek (famous actress and model in the 80s) in appearance.
- Scott drove a Firebird, a sports car that was super popular in the 80s!

The end of the road for Todd and Elizabeth?
One of the strictest rules in the Wakefield house is “No motorcycles.” Ever since their cousin was killed in a crash, Elizabeth and Jessica have been forbidden to go near them. So when Elizabeth’s boyfriend Todd drives up on a shiny new Yamaha, she knows there’s trouble ahead. She can’t ride Todd’s bike, but other girls can–and do. And sight of those girls riding with their arms around Todd is making Elizabeth crazy with jealousy. Todd tells her not to worry, but Elizabeth’s scared of losing him. Will Todd’s new bike drive them apart?
