“What types of manuscripts do you edit?“
I specialize in the area of Christian fiction and nonfiction, but I also work with writers in the general publishing market. I am willing to work with all genres except erotica and the occult.
“How do you charge for services?“
A percentage of the project cost is due up front with the rest of the payments to be made in milestone increments determined by our agreement. For projects $150 and under, payment is due in full before work begins.
“Why is it so expensive to hire an editor?“
Imagine how long it takes you to write your manuscript. It’s time-consuming, and you’re very specific with your craft. Professional editors are specific, too, and the goal is to help authors make their work the best it can be.
The Editorial Freelancers Association has a list of average hourly rates that freelance editors have reported charging. You can look at my rates to get an idea of how my fees stack in comparison.
“How long does it take to edit a manuscript?“
On querying colleagues, the rate a reasonably clean manuscript (written by a seasoned writer) is copyedited is around 1,000β1,500 words an hour. That is only an estimate, naturally. The rate of speed depends on the work needing to be done on the manuscript. I can give clients a good estimation once I see the manuscript and do a sample edit of a portion of the work.
“Do you edit web articles?“
I have helped edit articles for websites and am willing to do proofreading for most topics. I will not be responsible for fact-checking the articles I proofread.
“I’m a blogger, and I would like to improve the readability of my past articles. Can you do that?“
Absolutely! I would love to talk to you about your projects. I can be booked to proofread several small documents. Contact me here to let me know how many projects you have (and the average length of each), and we will develop a plan.
