I am so glad
that I had the opportunity to read this book. It is so moving, so convicting, so encouraging–all at the same time! How is that?! It’s easy–friendship is all of those things at different times, if we’re honest. And honesty is what this book is all about.
Natalie, the author, gets down to the nitty gritty when it comes to the honest truth about the good and bad of friendships. She very strongly suggests that in order to maintain a good friendship, that we ladies need to “get right with God.”
As a matter of fact, she states:
When I slip into my false self, it’s time for me to “get right with God.” There’s something unsteady and it’s time to refocus. Here’s how I get back on track:
1. Quiet time with God.
2. Worship.
3. Prayer.
4. Go to church.
5. Forgive others–and yourself.
6. Watch your schedule.
Regular interaction with friends is important. Making time to chat, to get together, or even to just talk over the phone is important. When trouble comes, putting pride aside and admitting wrong is vital, even when you think you may not be the one in the wrong.
I collected so many quotes from this book that my Kindle copy is full of highlights. Everything in this book is significant and poignant. It should be required reading for everyone who comes in contact with other humans!
Natalie shares Biblical wisdom to go along with what she says, so that you can dig into scripture yourself and see what God has to say about friendship.
This book covers topics from inadequacy, to pride, to envy and jealousy, bitterness–you name it–and how to overcome them all. It also goes into detail about technology addiction–prioritizing your interaction with humans, rest, easing off of the technology, setting boundaries (putting down the phone when you’re spending time with loved ones), etc.
I highly recommend Heart Sisters. It will help show you where you can make improvements in your own friendships and help you let go of the people who really aren’t invested in you.
