Trailing a Killer by Carol J. Post is an inspirational romantic suspense novel. It is part of the K-9 Search + Rescue series by Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense division. Read a free excerpt of it here!
Erin Jeffries is a detective and a volunteer with the Peace River K-9 Search and Rescue in Lee County, Florida. When a category three hurricane does its worst in the community, Erin is called to help with a potential rescue at a residential building that has partially collapsed. Her white German shepherd Alcee finds two men trapped, and one of them happens to be her ex-boyfriend from high school, Cody Elbourne.
Cody Elbourne was only at the apartment to pick up his grandfather before the worst of the storm hit the area. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it out of the building in time, but the hurricane wasn’t what caused extensive damage to the building. And when it was obvious that Cody was being targeted by a ruthless killer, Erin and the police were in a race to find the criminal and keep Cody from danger.
Carol Post makes writing look effortless. She skillfully creates characters with unique personalities. In Trailing a Killer, she captures the evil and profane qualities of the killer and the strength yet vulnerability of the heroine and hero.
I loved the inclusion of a service dog. Alcee is a big part of the story, and her sweet and smart personality made me smile. Carol deftly captured the heart of Alcee in a natural way.
The plot was filled with suspense all throughout, and the pacing was smooth. I also enjoyed the roots of faith she organically intertwined into the storyline.
Trailing a Killer was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more of Carol’s writing.
