Forget the Fad Diets; join the Food Freedom Movement!
Based on the authors’ successful self-published book, this simplified, improved, practical plan shows readers a unique way to lose weight and get healthy by eliminating sugar, and still eating hearty, delicious food. The biblically-sound and highly effective eating approach centers on Satisfying meals (which include more fats and protein) and Energizing meals (which include more carbs and protein), as they are the key to success. Scrumptious whole, unprocessed foods, including fats, blood sugar friendly grains, proteins, fruits, and vegetables, are eaten in a way that boosts metabolism, yet still fits into anyone’s hectic lifestyle. It’s family friendly and effective for pregnant and nursing mothers, pre or post- menopausal women, and also those without weight or health issues—even men and growing children.
The book includes menu plans, a list of key super foods to eat on plan, time-saving tips, and pantry stocking and lifestyle advice to help readers successfully reach their goals.
My Story
I have been a Trim Healthy Mama junkie since 2015. I saw it shared on Facebook early that year and did some preliminary searching. To be honest, it intrigued me greatly. However, it was too much information for me to deal with at the time, so I let it go.
Only a couple of months or so later, a friend of mine on Facebook shared a recipe from the Trim Healthy Mama plan. I remember thinking, “Oh, THAT again–maybe I should pay attention this time.” Losing weight is hard, but dealing my chronic costochondritis pain with extra pounds on my frame is harder. When I discovered a friend was familiar with Trim Healthy Mama, I decided to ask her about it. We talked, I checked the book out at the library, and once again, I was drawn to it.
What drew me in, you ask? Well, I have tried a lot of different diet plans, but I could tell that this plan was different than the other big name diet plans I’ve tried. Not only did it include breads, but I could also eat cheese and could eat fruit and still lose weight!
Throughout the first year, I slowly began to understand how to use “fuels”.
Fuel Types
The most difficult thing for me to understand about THM was figuring out what foods could be combined for weight loss. It didn’t take very long to figure it out, but what took me a while was being motivated to stick with it.
There are basically two major fuel meal types: Satisfying and Energizing.
Satisfying
Satisfying fuel meals focus on fats and foods that will leave you satisfied. Like butter and steak? You can have it. Satisfying meals focus on good protein sources. These meals should be combined with low-carb fuel sources, such as broccoli, cauliflower, salads with low-carb dressings, and berry fruits. One of my favorite lunches is a BLM (bacon, lettuce, mayo) wrap on a low-carb tortilla with several strawberries. Add a salad to that to make it even more filling!
Energizing
Energizing fuel meals focus on glucose-feeding foods, such as oatmeal, sprouted breads, sweet potatoes, and rice. Examples of Energizing meals would include: lentil soup with a slice of sprouted bread and 1 tsp of butter and a low-fat salad, a bowl of oatmeal and apple slices for breakfast with a cup of Greek yogurt, chicken and rice with carrots and celery, etc. Energizing meals should be low in fat but include plenty of protein to balance the meal.
Once I understood what foods worked synergistically with one another, the pounds started coming off. The more on target I am with the plan, the more weight comes off. It has worked so well for me over the nearly two years that I wanted to finally share it on my blog. Now, I want to also share with you my menu plans and more information about how Trim Healthy Mama works. So throughout the next weeks and months, I want to use my blog as an accountability tool and an information pub for anyone interested.
